Movement One — The Grip
I.2 — Friction
Somewhere, today, life chafes. It may be small — a message unanswered, a name that tightens the chest, a task circled for the third day. It may be large. It is there, and this is the first thing to notice, because everything else here rests on it.
Do not explain it yet. Do not decide whose fault it is. Simply find the place where the day rubs, the way you would find a stone in a shoe by walking. Notice that it has a location. Notice that it comes and goes and comes back, which means it is not the floor of things but something happening on the floor.
This is not a complaint about life. A boat moving through water makes a wake. A person moving through a day makes friction, and a day with none would be a day in which nothing was wanted and nothing was met. The teaching does not promise to remove it. It promises something stranger: that the friction has a location, and that the location can be looked at.
Try it now, before reading on. Find today's stone. You do not have to take off the shoe. Only know where it is.
